This dude has layers! His lyrics aren’t just gibberish from a mind affected by THC, as the title might have you believe. Mac Miller has a decent flow and something important to say. My favorite song on the album is Red Dot Music featuring Action Bronson; not only did they rip this track, the skit at the end will have you cracking up.
A lot of the lines on the album made me actually laugh; the entire album is mellow and that fact makes me only want to listen to this if I’m in the mood. It isn’t something to listen to at the gym or before a party and definitely not on a road trip, but put this CD in your stereo and zone out in your room with a gang of fools with the intent to chill. The self titled track, Watching Movies is the only song on the album that doesn’t have a relaxed feel to it.
Throughout the album you Mac really sticks to the album concept which I appreciate. Most of these songs sound as if they were possible thoughts in a silent room with your television on mute and there were also some tracks I skipped because they were a bit unfocused and were more random thoughts in a quiet room.
Watching Movies With The Sound Off dropped on June 18, along with Born Sinner and Yeezus. I’m not saying you should skip any of them, but Watching Movies With The Sound Off is a solid body of work and it deserves a thorough listen.
