I saw The Flavr Blue
on one random summer night in Bellingham, Washington — literally the city in the top left corner of the United States. I didn’t want to go to the show but my friend told me it would be worth the couple hours drive. She was right. I started the show in the way back, sipping on a rum and coke, and it’s entirely possible that front-woman, Hollis
, cast a spell on me during the first song. I ended up front row, dancing to the trio’s smooth production and smiling wide watching them hop around their MPCs. Hollis who may be better known for her role in Macklemore’s “White Walls” is a thousand times more impressive as the middle woman for The Flavr Blue. Her vocals stand out in The Flavr Blue in the best way and their live show had me wishing it would never end.
BRIGHT VICES is the trio’s new EP, five tracks of blissful production, beautiful vocals, and a cohesiveness that makes you feel like it’s one perfect twenty-one minute song (in the best way possible). Magnetic takes the cake for me, as much as I love Hollis voice, there’s something about the way that each of them take control of the track in different ways that makes it so great.
